Recently ended CES 2017 intel, showed us some very interesting new technology updates. We’ve seen the future and things that will change the way we communicate, entertain and work. Naturally, the spotlights were reserved for the biggest companies and the brightest one was at Intel stand. As always, people from Intel manage to amaze everyone with their new rising star product. What they created might change our homes and our business forever. And it can fit inside your pocket.
Computer giant created the smallest computer and called it “Compute card” and everyone is talking about it. It’s a credit card-sized computer and it has everything a computer needs to operate. It has CPU, GPU, RAM and Wi-Fi. The release is announced for mid-2017 and then we will know more about technical aspects and use of this product.

CES 2017 intel changed the game
This minicomputer will be able to work with Windows and Linux OS, and will be as fast as some laptops. The processing speed is insured with Kaby Lake processor. And when it comes to connectivity, Compute card uses USB-C plus extension. This allows computer to connect to HMDI, USB, PCI express, DP and other ports.
For now, we know that Intel plans to use Compute card as smart devices controller that you can slide into your TV, air-conditioner, smart refrigerator, etc. The benefits of this product are numerous and the most important one is that you would no longer have the need to buy a new TV. Instead you just change the Compute card or update the software. Intel plans to work in partnership with manufacturers such as Sharp, Lenovo, Dell, HP etc. in order to make the whole thing work. These manufacturers will produce their devices with specialized slots for Intel’s Compute card. Yet again, we have to wait a while to see which products will be the first to use the technology.
On the other side this minicomputer is not targeted to PCs, for now. We can only hope that this technology will be developed for PC use, because it would make PC upgrade much easier. Just imagine the possibilities. We could upgrade computers in no time, instead of buying new components all the time. But, as I said, we still have to wait until the product launches in mid 2017, then we’ll see the full span of Computer card abilities.
There aren’t many concerns when it comes to the success of this product. This year on CES 2017 intel revealed the intentions to sell billions of chips into all kind of home and business devices. The announcement of Dell and other manufacturers that they plan to build compatible devices insures that. The goal is to insure efficiency, speed and reliability of home and business devices.
On the other hand, we can’t but not to ask ourselves, how secure our home would be if it run on a computer. Would you feel safe knowing that some kid in a basement could hack into your system and cause havoc in your home? Just imagine waking up in a middle of the night to loud heavy metal music playing on your TV. Imagine your alarm system going off and on without your control. Those are all valid questions and Intel will have to work hard in order to secure full safety and integrity of our homes.
All in all, Intel has made a revolution with this new product. Showing it at CES 2017 intel took the perfect decision as they grabbed the attention of the whole world. And not only customers, other manufacturers will have to plan their future with Computer card in mind. It’s safe to say that in a few years selling a smartTV without a Computer card slot will be pointless. Also, we can hope for a competitor very soon. Other computer companies will look for their share of the market and that is always good for consumers. Competition means better products and lower prices.
So, how do you feel about this new, interesting product? What possibilities can you see for future development? Would you buy Intel Computer card or would you wait for a competitor? Let us know in the comments bellow, and tell us about your opinion regarding this minicomputer.
